INDICATION

Vepridone 1mg Tab is an atypical antipsychotic indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults and adolescents aged 13 years and older, including both acute episodes and long-term maintenance therapy. It is also indicated for the short-term treatment of acute manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar I disorder, either as monotherapy or as an adjunct to mood stabilizers such as lithium or valproate.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Risperidone is an atypical antipsychotic that works by blocking dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors. In schizophrenia, it reduces overactive dopamine in the mesolimbic pathway, relieving positive symptoms like hallucinations and delusions. DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

2: Bipolar mania: 2 to 3mg once daily, adjustable by 1mg increments at 24-hour intervals.

3: Pediatric autism (irritability): Begin at 0.25mg or 0.5mg daily based on body weight; adjust gradually.

4: Can be taken with or without food.

5: Do not stop or alter the dose abruptly; always consult your prescribing physician before making any changes.

Fluoxetine and paroxetine increase risperidone concentrations. Concurrent use with other CNS depressants, including benzodiazepines and opioids, increases the risk of sedation and respiratory depression. QT-prolonging agents such as amiodarone, sotalol, and certain antipsychotics may have additive effects.
