INDICATION

Roxastat 50mg Tab is indicated for the treatment of symptomatic anemia in adult patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), including those on dialysis and those not yet requiring dialysis. In CKD, the kidneys fail to produce adequate amounts of erythropoietin, leading to reduced red blood cell production and resulting in fatigue, weakness, and diminished quality of life. Roxastat stimulates the body's own erythropoietin production, raises hemoglobin levels, and improves iron regulation, correcting anemia through an oral, non-injectable approach. The 50mg dose is part of an individualized, weight-based titration regimen managed by a nephrologist.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Roxadustat, the active ingredient in Roxastat, inhibits the HIF prolyl hydroxylase enzyme, preventing the breakdown of hypoxia-inducible factor alpha (HIF-alpha). Under normal conditions, this enzyme degrades HIF-alpha when oxygen is sufficient.
