INDICATION

Xenglu Met 12.5+1000mg Tab is a fixed-dose combination oral antidiabetic indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults as an adjunct to diet and exercise. It is indicated in patients who are inadequately controlled on metformin monotherapy at the maximum tolerated dose and in whom the addition of an SGLT2 inhibitor is clinically appropriate. MECHANISM OF ACTION

Temporarily discontinue before iodinated contrast imaging procedures and during prolonged fasting or acute serious illness with a significant risk of dehydration.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Insulin and sulfonylureas increase the risk of hypoglycemia and may require a dose reduction of the secretagogue. Diuretics potentiate the volume-depleting effect of empagliflozin, increasing hypotension and dehydration risk. Iodinated contrast agents require metformin to be withheld at least 48 hours before and after the procedure and restarted only once renal function is confirmed stable. UGT inducers such as rifampicin may reduce empagliflozin exposure. Cationic drugs such as cimetidine may increase metformin plasma levels.
