INDICATION

Vepridone 4mg Tab is an atypical antipsychotic used as a standard maintenance dose for schizophrenia and the acute management of manic episodes in bipolar disorder. The 4mg dose represents the lower end of the effective maintenance range.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

At 4mg, risperidone achieves D2 receptor occupancy approaching 80%, the upper threshold of efficacy before extrapyramidal side effect risk increases significantly. The combined D2 and 5-HT2A blockade provides balanced antipsychotic activity for both positive and negative symptoms. The active metabolite 9-hydroxyrisperidone (paliperidone) extends and supplements the pharmacological effect throughout the dosing interval.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      Adults: 4mg once daily or in divided doses as prescribed

•      Titrate from lower doses before reaching 4mg

•      Take at the same time each day with or without food

•      Always follow the dosage prescribed by your psychiatrist; do not stop abruptly

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Extrapyramidal symptoms (more likely than at 2mg)

•      Sedation and fatigue

•      Weight gain and increased appetite

•      Hyperprolactinemia

•      Orthostatic hypotension
