INDICATION

Synalgo 100mg Tab is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) indicated for the relief of pain, inflammation, and stiffness associated with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and other musculoskeletal conditions. It is also prescribed for soft tissue injuries, including muscle sprains and strains, post-operative and post-dental pain, acute gout, and primary dysmenorrhea.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Flurbiprofen belongs to the propionic acid class of NSAIDs. It works by non-selectively inhibiting both cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzymes, which are responsible for producing prostaglandins, the chemical messengers that trigger pain, swelling, and fever at sites of inflammation or injury. By blocking these enzymes, flurbiprofen reduces the production of prostaglandins throughout the body, leading to decreased pain signals, reduced tissue swelling, lowered redness and warmth, and improved joint mobility.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Flurbiprofen can significantly enhance the anticoagulant effect of warfarin and other blood thinners, increasing bleeding risk; regular INR monitoring is essential. Concurrent use with other NSAIDs or corticosteroids increases gastrointestinal side effect risk. Antihypertensive drugs, including ACE inhibitors, ARBs, and diuretics, may have reduced efficacy when combined with flurbiprofen, and renal function should be monitored. Lithium plasma levels may rise when combined with flurbiprofen; dose adjustment may be needed. Co-administration with methotrexate can increase methotrexate toxicity.
