INDICATION

Peds Cream 50G is a zinc oxide-based barrier cream indicated for the prevention and treatment of diaper rash (nappy dermatitis) in infants and young children. Zinc oxide provides a physical protective barrier on the skin that prevents contact with moisture, urine, and fecal irritants. It also has mild antiseptic, astringent, and skin-soothing properties that help heal existing rash and reduce inflammation.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Zinc oxide acts as a physical skin protectant by forming an occlusive barrier on the skin surface. This barrier prevents prolonged contact between the skin and irritants such as urine, stool enzymes, and moisture, which are the primary causes of diaper dermatitis. Zinc oxide also has mild antimicrobial activity, reduces transepidermal water loss, and promotes an environment conducive to skin healing.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

●     Apply a thick, generous layer to the clean, dry nappy area at every diaper change

●     Ensure the cream covers all skin that will be in contact with the diaper

●     Reapply after cleaning the area during each diaper change

●     For prevention: apply a thin layer as a routine barrier even before rash develops

●     Do not rub vigorously; spread gently over irritated skin

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

●     Zinc oxide is generally very well tolerated with no significant side effects

●     Rare mild allergic contact dermatitis in hypersensitive individuals

Less common:

●     No significant adverse effects at recommended use

●     Extremely rare hypersensitivity reaction to zinc oxide or excipients

NOT RECOMMENDED IN

●     Known hypersensitivity to zinc oxide or any component

●     Application on infected skin (bacterial or fungal) without concurrent antimicrobial treatment

●     Use on deep wounds or severely broken skin

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Zinc oxide is applied topically and has no systemic absorption or drug interactions. It can be safely used alongside oral medications and other topical treatments. If concurrent antifungal cream is prescribed, apply the antifungal first and zinc oxide over it as a barrier.
