INDICATION

Olomine DS 0.2% Drops are a concentrated antiallergic ophthalmic solution indicated for the treatment of ocular itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis. The higher 0.2% concentration allows for once-daily dosing, providing convenience over standard 0.1% formulations that require twice-daily administration. It is effective for both seasonal and perennial allergic conjunctivitis caused by pollen, dust, pet dander, and other environmental allergens.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Olopatadine is a dual-action antiallergic agent that functions as both a selective histamine H1-receptor antagonist and a mast cell stabilizer. By blocking H1 receptors, it prevents histamine-mediated itching, redness, and swelling. By stabilizing mast cells, it prevents degranulation and release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators. The 0.2% concentration provides sustained therapeutic levels in the conjunctival tissue, enabling effective once-daily dosing.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

●     Instill 1 drop in each affected eye once daily

●     Administer at the same time each day for consistent allergy control

●     Treatment can begin before the expected allergy season for preventive benefit

●     Remove contact lenses before instillation and wait at least 10 minutes before reinserting

●     Avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye or any surface

●     Do not use more frequently than once daily

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

●     Mild burning or stinging upon instillation

●     Headache

●     Dry eye sensation

Less common:

●     Blurred vision immediately after application

●     Cold-like symptoms (nasopharyngitis)

●     Taste disturbance from nasolacrimal drainage

●     Eyelid edema (rare)

DRUG INTERACTIONS
