INDICATION

Norvasc-V 5/80mg is a fixed-dose antihypertensive combination tablet by Pfizer, indicated for the treatment of hypertension in adults whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled on either amlodipine or valsartan monotherapy. MECHANISM OF ACTION

The combination also reduces left ventricular hypertrophy and improves endothelial function.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      One tablet of 5/80mg once daily at the same time each day.

NSAIDs reduce the antihypertensive effect of valsartan and may worsen renal function. CYP3A4 inhibitors such as ritonavir may increase amlodipine plasma levels. Lithium levels may increase with concurrent valsartan use; lithium monitoring is advised. Grapefruit juice elevates amlodipine exposure and should be avoided.
