INDICATION

Latep 0.005% Eye Drop is a prostaglandin F2-alpha analogue indicated for the reduction of elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension who are intolerant of or insufficiently responsive to other IOP-lowering agents.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Latanoprost is a selective prostanoid FP receptor agonist. It reduces intraocular pressure primarily by increasing uveoscleral outflow of aqueous humor. After topical application, latanoprost is hydrolyzed by corneal esterases to its biologically active acid form. IOP reduction begins approximately 3 to 4 hours after instillation, peaks at 8 to 12 hours, and is sustained for at least 24 hours, allowing convenient once-daily dosing.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

●     Instill 1 drop into the affected eye once daily in the evening

●     Do not exceed once daily dosing; more frequent use may reduce effectiveness

●     Remove contact lenses before instillation; wait 15 minutes before reinserting

●     Occlude the nasolacrimal duct for 1 to 2 minutes to minimize systemic absorption

●     Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

●     Gradual darkening of iris color (irreversible)

●     Eyelash changes: increased length, thickness, pigmentation, and number

●     Mild conjunctival hyperemia

Less common:

●     Macular edema including cystoid macular edema in aphakic patients

●     Herpes simplex keratitis reactivation

●     Periorbital skin darkening

NOT RECOMMENDED IN

●     Known hypersensitivity to latanoprost, benzalkonium chloride, or any component

●     Active intraocular inflammation (iritis or uveitis)

●     Aphakic patients or pseudophakic patients with torn posterior lens capsule

DRUG INTERACTIONS

NSAIDs ophthalmic preparations may reduce latanoprost efficacy if used concurrently. Thimerosal-containing eye drops should be separated by at least 5 minutes due to precipitation risk.

STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS

Store unopened in refrigerator between 2 to 8 degrees Celsius. After opening, store below 25 degrees Celsius and use within 4 weeks. Protect from light. Keep out of reach of children.
