INDICATION
Ketoval Lotion 60ML is a topical antifungal indicated for the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp, tinea versicolor (pityriasis versicolor), and dandruff caused by Malassezia species. It reduces scaling, itching, and flaking while clearing the underlying fungal infection.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Ketoconazole is an imidazole antifungal that inhibits the enzyme lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase (CYP51) in the fungal ergosterol synthesis pathway. Depletion of ergosterol disrupts the fungal cell membrane integrity, causing leakage of cellular contents and fungal death. The lotion formulation allows easy application to the scalp and large body areas without the greasiness of cream-based formulations.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
● For seborrheic dermatitis: apply to the affected scalp area once daily for 2 to 4 weeks
● For tinea versicolor: apply to affected body areas once daily for up to 2 weeks
● Leave on for 3 to 5 minutes if used as a shampoo-like application, then rinse
● Do not exceed the recommended treatment duration without physician review
● For external use only
SIDE EFFECTS
Common:
● Mild burning or irritation at the application site
● Mild dryness or itching during initial treatment
Less common:
● Allergic contact dermatitis in sensitive individuals
● Hair texture changes in rare cases with prolonged scalp use
NOT RECOMMENDED IN
● Known hypersensitivity to ketoconazole or imidazole antifungals
● Avoid contact with eyes
● Do not apply on open wounds or severely inflamed skin
DRUG INTERACTIONS
