INDICATION

Gentamicin Cream 10GM is indicated for the topical treatment of primary and secondary skin infections caused by susceptible gram-negative and gram-positive organisms including impetigo, infected dermatitis, infected eczema, infected wounds, folliculitis, and superficial burns with bacterial infection.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that exerts bactericidal activity by irreversibly binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria. This causes misreading of the genetic code and disrupts protein synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death. Applied topically, gentamicin achieves effective local concentrations at the infection site with minimal systemic absorption.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

●     Apply a thin layer to the affected area three to four times daily

●     Gently rub into the skin

●     May be applied with or without an occlusive dressing as directed

●     Treatment is typically continued for 7 to 14 days

●     Do not apply near the eyes or mucous membranes

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

●     Mild skin irritation at the application site

●     Mild redness or itching

Less common:

●     Allergic contact dermatitis in sensitive individuals

●     Overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms with prolonged use

●     Known hypersensitivity to gentamicin or other aminoglycosides
