INDICATION:
Emsyn 10mg tablet is prescribed for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control. It is suitable as monotherapy for patients who cannot tolerate Metformin or as part of combination therapy with other antidiabetic drugs. The medication helps lower both fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels, improves HbA1c, and contributes to weight management.
MECHANISM OF ACTION:
Emsyn works by inhibiting SGLT2 in the renal proximal tubules, preventing glucose reabsorption and promoting urinary glucose excretion. This mechanism reduces blood sugar independently of insulin.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
● Take once daily, at the same time each day
● Can be taken with or without food
● Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew
● Maintain adequate hydration
SIDE EFFECTS:
● Common: Increased urination, thirst, urinary tract infections
● Less common: Hypotension, dizziness, genital fungal infections, rare ketoacidosis
NOT RECOMMENDED IN:
Type 1 diabetes, severe renal impairment, hypersensitivity
DRUG INTERACTIONS:
May increase hypoglycemia risk with insulin or sulfonylureas. Concomitant use with diuretics may increase dehydration risk. Caution with nephrotoxic drugs.
