INDICATION

Difsom Eye Drop is a topical NSAID indicated for the inhibition of surgically induced miosis during cataract extraction, reduction of post-operative ocular inflammation, and management of pain and inflammation following corneal refractive procedures. It is also used in the symptomatic treatment of allergic conjunctivitis.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Difsom contains Diclofenac Sodium 0.1%, an NSAID that inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes in ocular tissues, reducing the synthesis of inflammatory prostaglandins. This action prevents prostaglandin-mediated vasodilation, pain, and intraoperative miosis. The reduction in prostaglandin production helps control post-surgical ocular inflammation and provides symptomatic relief in allergic eye conditions.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

·        Instill 1 drop into the affected eye or eyes four times daily.

·        For pre-operative use, instill 1 drop four times in the 2 hours prior to surgery.

·        For post-operative use, begin within 24 hours after surgery and continue for up to 4 weeks.

·        Shake well before use if instructed.

·        Do not touch the dropper tip to the eye or any surface.

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Transient burning or stinging immediately after instillation

•      Mild eye irritation or discomfort

Less common:

•      Corneal thinning or erosion with prolonged use

•      Conjunctival hyperemia or tearing

•      Allergic reactions in sensitive patients

NOT RECOMMENDED IN

•      Hypersensitivity to diclofenac or other NSAIDs

•      Aspirin-sensitive respiratory disease

•      Contact lens wear during active treatment

DRUG INTERACTIONS

•      Additive anti-inflammatory effects with topical corticosteroids

•      Increased bleeding risk when combined with systemic anticoagulants

•      Maintain at least 5-minute interval between different ophthalmic preparations
