INDICATION

Betasalic Lotion 20ml is a combined topical corticosteroid and keratolytic preparation indicated for the treatment of hyperkeratotic and scaly inflammatory skin conditions including psoriasis, lichen simplex chronicus, ichthyosis, eczema with scaling and lichenification, and seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp. The salicylic acid component is particularly valuable in removing thick scale and hyperkeratosis, enhancing corticosteroid penetration to deeper layers of the inflamed dermis.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Betamethasone dipropionate is a potent synthetic fluorinated corticosteroid that suppresses inflammation through glucocorticoid receptor activation, reducing cytokine, prostaglandin, and leukotriene production in the skin, controlling erythema, induration, and pruritus. Salicylic acid is a beta-hydroxy acid keratolytic that softens and dissolves the bonds between keratinocytes, reducing corneocyte adhesion and facilitating the shedding of excess stratum corneum (scale). This keratolytic action reduces the physical barrier of hyperkeratosis, improving drug penetration and increasing the bioavailability and efficacy of the betamethasone in deeper skin layers.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      Apply to the affected area once or twice daily as directed

•      Gently massage into the scalp or skin surface until absorbed

•      For scalp psoriasis: part the hair, apply directly to the scalp lesions, and rub in gently

•      Do not use for more than 4 weeks without dermatological review; always follow your doctor's instructions

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Topical salicylic acid can enhance the percutaneous absorption of concurrently applied drugs including betamethasone itself; this can increase both efficacy and systemic side effect risk. Avoid combination with other topical salicylate-containing products. Systemic salicylate interactions (anticoagulants, antidiabetics) are unlikely at topical doses unless applied extensively.
