INDICATION:
Acemox 250mg Tab is a diuretic and carbonic anhydrase inhibitor used for managing glaucoma, edema, altitude sickness, and certain types of seizures. It helps reduce intraocular pressure in glaucoma patients, decreases fluid accumulation in edema, and assists in preventing symptoms related to high-altitude exposure, such as headache and nausea.
MECHANISM OF ACTION:
Acetazolamide inhibits the enzyme carbonic anhydrase, reducing the formation of bicarbonate and subsequently decreasing fluid secretion in the eyes, kidneys, and cerebrospinal system. This leads to reduced intraocular pressure, increased urine output, and prevention of fluid-related symptoms.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
● Take orally with water, with or after meals.
● Standard dose: 250mg 1–2 times daily or as prescribed.
● Swallow whole; do not crush or chew.
SIDE EFFECTS:
● Common: tingling in fingers/toes, nausea, loss of appetite, frequent urination.
● Less common: dizziness, electrolyte imbalance, kidney stones, allergic reactions.
NOT RECOMMENDED IN:
● Severe kidney or liver disease
● Allergy to sulfonamides
● Addison’s disease
DRUG INTERACTIONS:
May interact with other diuretics, corticosteroids, or anticonvulsants. Electrolyte monitoring may be needed during combination therapy.
