INDICATION

Tside 4mg Cap is a centrally acting muscle relaxant and anti-inflammatory agent indicated for the symptomatic treatment of painful muscle spasm associated with vertebral pathology including cervical and lumbar disc disease, torticollis, and musculoskeletal disorders. It is used as an adjunct to physiotherapy and analgesic therapy.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Thiocolchicoside is a semisynthetic glycoside of colchicine that acts as a competitive antagonist at GABA-A and glycine receptors in the spinal cord and brain. By blocking inhibitory neurotransmitter receptors in the central nervous system, it reduces spinal hyperreflexia and decreases the pathological increase in skeletal muscle tone that underlies painful muscle spasm. It has no direct peripheral neuromuscular blocking activity. Thiocolchicoside also has mild anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties at the site of muscle injury.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      Adults: 4mg two to four times daily

•      Maximum recommended dose: 16mg per day

•      Take with food and water

•      Recommended duration is typically 5 to 7 days for acute muscle spasm; always follow the dosage prescribed by your doctor

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Nausea and gastrointestinal discomfort

•      Diarrhoea

•      Somnolence and sedation

•      Dizziness

Less common:

•      Allergic skin reactions

•      Hypotension

•      Seizures at excessive doses (rare at therapeutic doses)

•      Elevated liver enzymes with prolonged use

DRUG INTERACTIONS

CNS depressants including alcohol, benzodiazepines, and sedative antihistamines add to the sedative effect of Thiocolchicoside. Antihypertensive drugs may have additive hypotensive effects. Colchicine-related compounds may theoretically interact with P-glycoprotein substrates; however, significant pharmacokinetic interactions with common medications have not been well documented at standard doses.
