INDICATION

Rifazin 200mg Tab is a broad-spectrum, gut-targeted antibiotic used for the treatment of traveler's diarrhea caused by non-invasive strains of Escherichia coli in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and above. It is also effective in managing irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D) and in reducing the recurrence of overt hepatic encephalopathy, a serious complication of liver disease in which toxins accumulate in the bloodstream and impair brain function. By working locally within the gastrointestinal tract, Rifazin effectively targets harmful gut bacteria while minimizing systemic absorption and side effects.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Rifaximin works by entering bacterial cells and binding to the enzyme RNA polymerase, which bacteria need to produce proteins for survival and multiplication. NOT RECOMMENDED IN

Rifazin 200mg Tab is not recommended in patients with known hypersensitivity to rifaximin or other rifamycin antibiotics. DRUG INTERACTIONS

Rifaximin has minimal systemic drug interactions due to its poor absorption. However, in patients with liver impairment, it may reduce the effectiveness of warfarin, requiring more frequent INR monitoring. Live vaccines such as the typhoid vaccine may be less effective during rifaximin therapy and should be administered with appropriate timing. Patients with moderate to severe liver disease may experience increased plasma concentrations of rifaximin, which could alter drug interactions.
