INDICATION
Isdic Cream 15GM is a topical antibiotic indicated for the treatment of primary and secondary skin infections caused by fusidic acid-susceptible organisms, particularly Staphylococcus aureus. It is used for impetigo, infected eczema, infected wounds, folliculitis, and other superficial bacterial skin infections.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Fusidic acid is a bacteriostatic antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by blocking elongation factor G (EF-G), preventing the translocation step on the ribosome. This halts the addition of amino acids to the growing polypeptide chain. Fusidic acid has excellent skin penetration through both intact and damaged skin and is primarily active against gram-positive organisms, especially Staphylococcus aureus including many methicillin-resistant strains.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
● Apply a thin layer to the affected area two to three times daily
● Gently rub into the skin
● Treatment duration is typically 7 to 14 days
● Do not exceed 14 days of continuous use without medical review
● May be used with or without a dressing
● Wash hands before and after application
SIDE EFFECTS
Common:
● Mild stinging or burning at the application site
● Mild skin irritation
Less common:
● Allergic contact dermatitis in sensitive individuals
● Bacterial resistance development with prolonged use
NOT RECOMMENDED IN
● Known hypersensitivity to fusidic acid or any component
● Deep-seated infections requiring systemic therapy
● Avoid application near eyes or mucous membranes
DRUG INTERACTIONS
No significant systemic interactions due to minimal topical absorption. Fusidic acid may increase risk of rhabdomyolysis if absorbed systemically alongside statins, though this risk is minimal with topical use.
