INDICATION

Ferosoft Drops are indicated for the prevention and treatment of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia in infants and young children. They are also used in situations of increased iron demand including prematurity, low birth weight, and nutritional deficiency during the first years of life.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Iron hydroxide polymaltose complex (IPC) is a stable, non-ionic macromolecular complex consisting of ferric iron hydroxide and polymaltose. Unlike conventional ionic iron salts, IPC does not release free ionic iron in the gastrointestinal tract, resulting in significantly fewer gastrointestinal side effects. Iron is absorbed actively by the intestinal mucosa via a controlled mechanism similar to that of lactoferrin. This formulation does not oxidize Vitamin C, does not interact with food components, and has a favorable safety profile, making it particularly suitable for infants.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

·        Infants below 1 year: 1 to 2.5 ml daily.

·        Children 1 to 12 years: 2.5 to 5 ml daily or as directed by a physician.

·        The drops may be administered directly into the mouth or mixed with fruit juice, water, or infant formula.

·        Shake well before use.

·        Use the dropper provided for accurate dosing.

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Mild nausea or gastrointestinal discomfort with high doses

•      Mild darkening of stools

Less common:

•      Constipation in sensitive individuals
