INDICATION

Eyemox Eye Drop is indicated for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis and other superficial bacterial infections of the eye caused by susceptible organisms including Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and other gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Moxifloxacin is a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic that exerts bactericidal activity by inhibiting both DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV. These enzymes are essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. Dual inhibition reduces the likelihood of resistance development. Moxifloxacin has a broad spectrum of activity and achieves high ocular tissue concentrations following topical application.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Instill 1 drop into the affected eye three times daily for 7 days. In severe infections, instill 1 drop every 2 hours for the first two days, then reduce to three times daily for the remaining days. Tilt the head back, pull the lower lid gently down, and instill the drop. Close the eye for 1 to 2 minutes. Do not touch the dropper to any surface.

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Mild transient stinging or burning on instillation

•      Eye irritation or discomfort

Less common:

•      Blurred vision temporarily

•      Conjunctival hyperemia or redness

•      Dry eye or tearing

NOT RECOMMENDED IN

•      Patients with hypersensitivity to moxifloxacin, other fluoroquinolones, or any component of the formulation

•      Do not use with soft contact lenses during active infection treatment

•      Use caution in patients with history of tendon disorders associated with fluoroquinolones

DRUG INTERACTIONS

•      Systemic fluoroquinolones may have additive effects if used concurrently

•      No significant topical drug-drug interactions documented with standard ocular preparations
