INDICATION

Dayline 500mg IV Inj is used for the intravenous treatment of moderate bacterial infections in both adults and children. It is indicated for respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, meningitis, pyelonephritis, skin and soft tissue infections, and post-surgical prophylaxis where the 500mg dose is clinically appropriate, including pediatric weight-based dosing regimens.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Ceftriaxone disrupts bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to PBPs. The IV route provides immediate maximum plasma concentrations, making it preferred in hospitalized patients requiring rapid therapeutic drug levels.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      Adults: 500mg IV once daily for mild to moderate infections

•      Administer by slow IV infusion over at least 30 minutes

•      Reconstitute each vial with 10ml sterile water for injection or 5% dextrose

•      Pediatric dosing: 50mg/kg/day (maximum 2g per day)

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Phlebitis or pain at IV site

•      Nausea, diarrhea

•      Rash

Less common:

•      Biliary sludge

•      Eosinophilia

•      Clostridium difficile colitis

NOT RECOMMENDED IN

•      Known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillin’s

•      Neonates with hyperbilirubinemia

•      Do not mix with calcium-containing IV fluids

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Physically incompatible with calcium-containing solutions. Monitor for potential enhanced anticoagulation if on warfarin.

STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
