INDICATION

Dayline 250mg IV Inj is a third-generation cephalosporin used for the treatment of uncomplicated gonorrhea, surgical prophylaxis, and mild to moderate bacterial infections in pediatric patients. The 250mg dose is particularly useful when a full 1g dose is not required, such as in single-dose treatment protocols for sexually transmitted infections or in weight-based pediatric dosing.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Ceftriaxone inhibits bacterial PBPs, preventing cell wall synthesis and causing bactericidal cell death. It has excellent penetration into most body tissues and fluids, including the cerebrospinal fluid in meningitis. Its long plasma half-life of 6 to 9 hours allows once or twice-daily dosing.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      Uncomplicated gonorrhea: 250mg as a single IM dose

•      Pediatric dosing: 50mg to 100mg/kg/day IV or IM (maximum 2g per day)

•      Neonates (0 to 7 days): 50mg/kg once daily; avoid in hyperbilirubinemia neonates

•      Reconstitute with sterile water for injection and administer slowly

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Pain at injection site

•      Diarrhea, nausea

•      Rash

Less common:

•      Biliary sludge

•      Hemolytic anemia

•      Allergic reactions

NOT RECOMMENDED IN

•      Neonates with hyperbilirubinemia

•      Known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillin’s

•      Do not mix with calcium-containing solutions

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Avoid concurrent calcium-containing IV solutions. Monitor warfarin INR.
