INDICATION

Cofrest syrup 120ml exerts its therapeutic effect through the combined action of Theophylline, Diphenhydramine, Ammonium Chloride, and Menthol. Theophylline relaxes bronchial smooth muscles and dilates the airways to improve breathing. Diphenhydramine blocks H1 histamine receptors, reducing allergic symptoms and suppressing cough. Ammonium Chloride acts as an expectorant by loosening and thinning mucus for easier expulsion from the respiratory tract. Menthol provides a cooling and soothing effect on the throat, helping to relieve irritation and create a sensation of clearer airflow.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

The antitussive component modulates the cough reflex at peripheral cough receptors in the respiratory mucosa or at central cough control mechanisms in the brainstem, reducing the frequency of cough episodes. The expectorant component increases respiratory tract fluid secretion, reducing mucus viscosity and improving mucociliary transport, making secretions easier to expectorate. Together, these actions reduce the frequency and severity of cough while facilitating clearance of respiratory secretions and promoting resolution of associated symptoms.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      Adults: 10ml three to four times daily

•      Children 6 to 12 years: 5ml three times daily

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:
