INDICATION

Clobederm Lotion 60ml is a superpotent topical corticosteroid in lotion form indicated for severe inflammatory scalp conditions and other areas with hair growth that require high-potency steroid therapy. It is used for scalp psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp, scalp lichen planus, and other severe inflammatory scalp conditions where the cream or ointment formulations are impractical due to hair.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Clobetasol propionate is a superpotent synthetic fluorinated corticosteroid that binds with very high affinity to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors, producing potent suppression of the inflammatory cascade. It reduces cytokine production (IL-1, IL-2, TNF-alpha), inhibits arachidonic acid metabolism, suppresses histamine and leukotriene release, and reduces vascular permeability and oedema in inflamed skin.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      Apply a small amount directly to the scalp or hair-bearing area and gently rub in twice daily

•      Do not use for more than 2 consecutive weeks without dermatological review

•      Maximum weekly dose: 50g

•      Always follow the dosage and duration prescribed by your dermatologist

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Scalp irritation and burning on application (alcohol-containing lotion bases)

•      Hair thinning with prolonged scalp application

•      Folliculitis of the scalp

•      Perilesional depigmentation

Less common:

•      HPA axis suppression with extensive scalp application

•      Secondary scalp infections

•      Contact sensitization

•      Systemic effects with prolonged extensive use

NOT RECOMMENDED IN

•      Scalp ringworm (tinea capitis) or other fungal scalp infections without antifungal treatment

•      Known hypersensitivity to clobetasol

•      Children under 12 years

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Systemic corticosteroid interactions may occur with extensive application. Avoid combination with other potent topical steroids on the same area.
